A HubSpot AI agent in your Slack channel, bound to one portal.
Chickpea gives a channel a named AI teammate that holds its own HubSpot connection: a HubSpot Slack integration you talk to. You sign in with HubSpot on a page Chickpea serves, then pick the portal. The teammate is handed a fixed list of CRM capabilities, not the whole API. Ask it what is closing this month, who a contact is, or to log a note, and it answers in the thread.
What people ask it.
The teammate is @revops, in #growth. Pick a scenario to watch it play.
| Deal | Stage | Amount | Close date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashfield Logistics | Contract Sent | $96,000 | Sep 26 |
| Meriwether Foods renewal | Negotiation | $48,000 | Sep 29 |
| Kestrel Analytics | Contract Sent | $44,000 | Sep 22 |
| Rainier Dental Group | Contract Sent | $41,500 | Sep 25 |
| Coldbrook Textiles | Negotiation | $32,000 | Sep 30 |
Read the pipeline Read only
@revops what is closing this month, and what is it worth
@revops which deals slipped out of September, and who owns each one
Reads never need confirmation, and a long answer comes back as a table in the thread. The teammate searches deals by stage, pipeline, amount, close date, and owner, and can list the pipelines and their stages first if it needs the names. One search returns at most 100 records a page.
Look up a contact or a company Read only
@revops who is ap@meriwetherfoods.com, and what have we logged with them
@revops pull up Ashfield Logistics: owner, open deals, and the last thing that happened
The capability list covers searching and reading contacts, companies, deals, tickets, notes, tasks, meetings, and calls, plus the owners behind them and the links between records. Each object has a set list of properties, so the answer names fields such as lifecycle stage and owner rather than every custom property in the portal.
Log a note, a task, or a meeting Applies at once
@revops log a note on Ashfield Logistics that their CFO wants a security review before signing
@revops create a task for Marco to send Coldbrook the redlines back, due Thursday
One note, task, or meeting record is a small reversible write, so it applies at once and the reply says what it wrote. Your message still has to name the action. A thread that merely mentions it is not enough, because a managed capability that is not a read is refused unless the request itself asks for it.
Update deal stages and owners Asks first
@revops move Ashfield Logistics to Contract Sent and set the close date to Oct 15
@revops reassign Priya's open deals to Marco while she is out
One deal changes on the spot. There is no batch capability, so a change across several deals is several writes, and that is a broad change: the teammate lists what would move and waits for a yes in the thread. Deals, contacts, companies, and tickets all update this way, one record at a time.
On a schedule Applies at once
@revops every Monday at 8am Pacific, post what is closing this month here
@revops every Friday at 4pm Eastern, list the deals that changed stage this week
A schedule saves on the spot. It needs an explicit time zone, runs under the HubSpot connection of the person who asked, and is paused rather than run if that connection stops working. Ask for something the CRM can be searched for, such as deals by close date or by stage.
Connect it
Five steps, from Admin or from Slack.
You sign in through a page Chickpea serves, never in Slack. The link the teammate posts is good for one action, for one teammate, for 24 hours.
- In Chickpea Admin, open the teammate, then Connections, find HubSpot, and choose Connect. Or ask in Slack,
@revops connect HubSpot, and follow the link it posts. That link is good for one action, for one teammate, for 24 hours. - Choose who uses it. Team is one shared HubSpot account that everyone who can use the teammate acts through, and it needs the Owner or Admin role. Personal means each member signs in as themselves, and the teammate uses your account only for your requests.
- Choose Continue to sign in. HubSpot's own sign-in opens in a second tab, never in Slack. Read the permissions on that screen, because the grant you approve there can be wider than the capability list the teammate is handed. HubSpot may also warn that the app is unverified.
- Pick the portal. The connection is bound to one HubSpot portal and that exact portal is checked when the connection is validated, so a second portal means a second connection.
- Ask something.
@revops what is closing this monthis a good first question, because it reads and cannot change anything.
A connection belongs to one teammate. Giving a second teammate HubSpot means a second sign-in with its own portal binding, so the support teammate never inherits what the revenue teammate can reach.
A teammate with a HubSpot connection is handed a fixed list of capabilities that Chickpea curates rather than the whole HubSpot API: bounded searches and reads across contacts, companies, deals, tickets, and activities, plus the owners, pipelines, and links behind them. The writes create or update one record at a time, and the list has nothing for deleting, importing, changing the schema, running a workflow, or publishing marketing. The capability list is in the product source.

Questions people ask
Can HubSpot integrate with Slack?
Two ways. HubSpot ships its own Slack app, which its knowledge base describes as getting notifications, managing records, sharing reports, replying to chat conversations, and using Breeze Assistant in Slack. A Chickpea teammate is the other way: it holds a HubSpot connection of its own and does what you ask in the channel. Both can be installed.
Can an AI agent update HubSpot deals from Slack?
Yes. Mention the teammate, say which deal and what changes, and it updates that one record and replies with what it wrote. Your message has to name the change, because a write is refused when the request itself does not ask for it. A change across several deals is proposed first and applied after someone says yes.
Is this HubSpot's Breeze agents?
No. HubSpot's agents live in HubSpot. Its Agent Hub page describes prebuilt agents such as Customer Agent, Prospecting Agent, and Data Agent, plus an agent builder included in Starter, Professional, and Enterprise, with custom agents consuming HubSpot credits. A Chickpea teammate lives in a Slack channel, on infrastructure you run, and reaches into HubSpot through a connection you granted it. Want the agent inside HubSpot, use theirs.
Does it use HubSpot's MCP server?
No. HubSpot does run one, at mcp.hubspot.com, documented as a bridge that lets authorized LLMs reach a HubSpot account over OAuth. This connector is not that. It is a hosted sign-in bound to one portal, and the teammate is handed a fixed capability list that Chickpea defines rather than tools discovered from a server.
Which portal can it see?
The one it was connected to, and no other. The connection pins one HubSpot portal, that exact portal is checked when the connection is validated, and it is checked again on every call. Connecting a second portal is a second connection, with its own sign-in and its own owner.
Can it send email or delete records?
No. Nothing in the capability list sends an email, deletes a record, runs an import, edits the schema, starts a workflow, or publishes marketing content. Those capabilities are absent rather than blocked, so the teammate has nothing to call, whatever it is asked. Past that, a capability whose effect is not a read is refused during a turn unless your own message names that action.
Do I still need HubSpot's Slack integration?
Keep it if you rely on notifications, since a Chickpea teammate hears nothing from HubSpot on its own. HubSpot's app also creates channels from workflows, shares reports and marketing emails, and answers from Breeze Assistant inside Slack. The teammate is the other direction: it reads and writes the CRM when someone in the channel asks it to.
Which HubSpot plan does this need?
HubSpot's knowledge base says its Slack integration is available on all products and plans, and that installing it needs Super Admin or App Marketplace permissions in HubSpot plus admin rights in the Slack workspace. This connector does not go through that app. It needs an account that can sign in to the portal and see the records you want read, and nothing checked on this page's date named a plan tier beyond that.
Will it post in Slack when a deal changes?
Not on its own. Triggers are off on this connector, so nothing arrives from HubSpot unprompted. Ask for a schedule instead, such as a Monday morning summary of what is closing this month, and it posts that to the channel at the time you set.
Does everyone act as the same HubSpot user?
That is your choice when you connect. A team account is one shared sign-in that everyone with access to the teammate acts through, and HubSpot records the actions against it. A personal account belongs to one member inside one teammate, so it is used only for your requests and nobody else sees what it can reach.
Try it
Give a channel a HubSpot teammate.
One deploy into your own Cloudflare account, connect Slack, sign in to HubSpot, ask. Apache 2.0, no seats, no metering.
Or run it on Node. The setup guide covers both.
