Reads never need confirmation. The teammate lists the calendars your Google account can open, reads the events in the range you named, and answers in the thread. A long answer comes back as a table. One read returns at most 250 events, so a wide range arrives in pages rather than in one wall of text.

There is no free/busy lookup in this connector. The teammate lists the calendars your account can open, reads the events on them, and proposes the gaps it can see. A colleague who has not shared a calendar with you is a gap it cannot check, and it says so rather than guessing.

A new event is a small, reversible write, so it goes straight through. The reply names the calendar, the time, and the guests it invited. Up to 100 guests, and a Google Meet room only when you ask for one. Nothing checks for a clash first, so name the time you mean.

Moving one event applies on the spot, and the reply names what changed. Cancelling does not. Deleting an event is destructive and it emails the guests, so the teammate names the event and the time it read and waits for a yes.

A schedule saves on the spot. It needs an explicit time zone, and "every Monday at 9am" without one is refused rather than guessed. Each run uses the Google Calendar connection of the person who asked. Before each run Chickpea re-reads the teammate, the channel grant, and that connection, and a missing one fails the run with a named reason.

You sign in through a page Chickpea serves, never in Slack. The link the teammate posts is good for one action, for one teammate, for 24 hours.
- In Chickpea Admin, open the teammate, then Connections, find Google Calendar, and choose Connect. Or ask in Slack,
@people connect Google Calendar, and follow the link it posts. - Choose who uses it. Personal is the usual answer for a calendar. Each member signs in as themselves, and the teammate uses your calendar only for your own requests. Team is one shared Google account, which suits a room or a team calendar, and it needs the Owner or Admin role.
- Choose Continue to sign in. A hosted Google sign-in opens in a second tab while Chickpea waits in the first, and the attempt lasts 30 minutes. You sign in there, never in Slack, and there is no token to paste anywhere in this connector.
- Read the permissions on that screen before you approve. The grant you give Google can be wider than the five capabilities Chickpea hands the teammate, and a narrower teammate does not narrow what you approved.
- There is nothing else to pick. Google Calendar is ready as soon as the sign-in finishes, unlike Gong or Analytics, which stay pending until an Admin selects resources. Ask

A connection belongs to one teammate. Giving a second teammate Google Calendar means a second sign-in with its own consent. A personal account is usable only by the member who owns it, so your calendar is not readable by the rest of the channel through the teammate, and someone else's is not in the room when you ask.
A managed connector has no discovered tool list. The teammate is handed a fixed list of capabilities that Chickpea curates, rather than Google's whole Calendar API. Five cover Google Calendar: list the calendars the account can open, list or search events on one, create an event, patch an existing event, and delete one. Calendar creation, sharing rules, access control, settings, and the free/busy endpoint are all absent, and every result is capped at 256 KB before it reaches the model. Questions people ask
Can I integrate Google Calendar with Slack?
Two ways, and they do different jobs. Slack publishes a Google Calendar app that connects your calendar to Slack for event notifications, reminders, invite replies, and a status that flips to In a meeting. A Chickpea teammate is the other way. It holds a Google Calendar connection of its own and answers what you ask it in the channel, in plain words. The two run side by side.
How do I sync Slack with my calendar?
Status sync is Slack's own feature, not this one. Slack's help page says the Google Calendar app automatically sets your Slack status to In a meeting or Out of Office from your events. Install that app for the status. A Chickpea teammate never touches your Slack status. It reads the calendar, and writes to it, when you ask.
Do I still need the Google Calendar app for Slack?
Most teams keep both, because they run in opposite directions. Slack's app pushes at you: notifications for all-day events, invitations, updates and cancellations, reminders before an event, a join button on events that carry a Meet or Zoom link, a Messages tab for replying to invites, and a Today or Tomorrow view. Slack says one person installs it and members then connect their own calendars. A Chickpea teammate posts nothing unprompted. It sits in the channel, answers when asked, and can book or move an event from the thread you are already in.
Does it use Google's Calendar MCP server?
No. Google Calendar is a managed connector here, and nothing in it speaks MCP. Google does publish a Calendar MCP server at calendarmcp.googleapis.com, and its guide documents connecting Google Antigravity or Claude to it, says you enable it in a Google Cloud project first, and says it is part of the Google Workspace Developer Preview Program. That puts your calendar inside one person's AI client. This puts it in a channel where the meeting is being arranged.
Is this Gemini in Google Calendar?
No, and Google's own feature sits somewhere else. Google's help page describes Gemini in Calendar searching everyone's availability and suggesting times to meet, reached from Suggested times when you create or edit an event, and says it requires an eligible Google Workspace plan. That runs inside Calendar on a computer. A Chickpea teammate runs in a Slack channel, on infrastructure you own, and can hold other accounts beside Calendar. Chickpea is not built by Google and is not affiliated with Google.
Can it delete an event?
Yes, and it asks first. Deleting is the one Google Calendar capability Chickpea classes as destructive, so the teammate names the event and the time it read and waits for a yes. Saved teammate instructions can pre-authorize that class of action if you would rather it stopped asking. Under the judgment sits a gate that does not consult the model: during a Slack turn any managed capability whose effect is not a read is refused unless your message names that action. Permission to book a meeting is not permission to cancel one.
Can it see other people's calendars?
Only the ones the connected Google account can open. The teammate lists those first, then reads events from the ones you name. There is no free/busy capability in the list, so a colleague who has not shared a calendar with your account is invisible to it, and it says so instead of inventing a free slot. On a personal connection the account is usable only by the member who owns it, which is why personal is the right answer for most calendars.
What calendar app can I use with Slack?
For this teammate, Google Calendar. Chickpea's catalog has no Outlook or Apple Calendar connector today, so an Outlook team wants Slack's own Outlook Calendar app instead. The gallery lists every service a teammate can connect to.
Which Google Workspace plan does this need?
Nothing in the connector asks for one. The connection is an ordinary Google sign-in, and what the teammate can read or change is what that Google account can read or change, so a personal Gmail account works the same way as a Workspace one. Google's own scheduling feature is the one that names a plan. Its help page says suggested times require an eligible Google Workspace plan.
Will it tell me when someone books over me?
Not on its own. There are no calendar webhooks in this connector, so nothing arrives unprompted. Ask for a schedule instead, such as a Monday morning agenda in the channel, and name a time zone. The schedule saves on the spot and runs under your Google Calendar connection. Disconnect that account and it stops with a named reason rather than running on someone else's.
